BS 5896 Standard PC Strand

Standard Introduction: BS5896 specifies the requirements for high elastic strength steel bars and seven-wire steel strands used in prestressed concrete, and is applicable to building materials provided by manufacturers. The standard clarifies the types, production methods and overall requirements of Prestressed Steel bars, and has detailed provisions on the geometric characteristics, mechanical characteristics, long-term characteristics and other aspects of steel strands, and gives corresponding inspection methods.

Product specifications and performance:

Structure and specifications: Seven-wire steel strands usually consist of a straight core steel wire and 6 spiral steel wires surrounding it. Common nominal diameters include 9.3mm, 11.0mm, 12.5mm, 15.2mm and other sizes.

Mechanical properties: It has high tensile strength, such as 7-wire standard type steel strands with a nominal diameter of 9.3mm, with a nominal tensile strength of up to 1770N/mm² and a minimum elongation of 3.5% under maximum load. At the same time, the standard also stipulates indicators such as 0.1% proof load (0.1% yield load) of steel strands, and the values ​​of different specifications of steel strands are different. In terms of relaxation performance, it is divided into level 1 and level 2 relaxation levels. At 20°C, the initial stress is 60%, 70% or 80% of the specified load, the test time is 1000 hours, and different types of steel strands have corresponding maximum relaxation rate limits.

Application areas:

Prestressed concrete structure: Mainly used in various types of prestressed concrete projects, it is an indispensable material in structures such as bridges, high-rise buildings, and large-span factories. By applying prestress to concrete, the crack resistance and bearing capacity of the components can be effectively improved, the cross-sectional size of the components can be reduced, and the deadweight of the structure can be reduced.

Bridge construction: It can be used for prestressed tendons of prefabricated beams to bear the load of the bridge and enhance the bending and shear resistance of the beam body. In some large bridges, it can also be used as a component of the cable of a cable-stayed bridge or the main cable of a suspension bridge to ensure the stability and safety of the bridge structure.

Other fields: It can also be applied to structures such as dams and gates in water conservancy projects, as well as slope support and foundation anchoring in geotechnical engineering, which can improve the ability of the structure to resist external forces and enhance the durability and reliability of the project.BS 5896 Standard PC Strand
