A retard‑bonded PC (prestressed concrete) steel strand is a type of bonded prestressing strand whose surface is treated to delay (or “retard”) the bond development with the surrounding grout or concrete until after tensioning, but which ultimately becomes fully bonded along its length. This approach combines the installation advantages of unbonded systems (reduced friction during stressing) with the long‑term performance of bonded systems (full composite action).
During the construction phase, the Prestressed Steel strands are free to expand and contract and deform, and do not bond with the surrounding retarding adhesive. However, within a predetermined period after the construction is completed, the prestressed tendons bond with the surrounding concrete through the solidified retarding adhesive. The main implementation standards include JG/T369, etc.
