I. Product Introduction
1. Structure and Composition
Construction: Made of 7 high-strength steel wires twisted together, the outer layer is wrapped with a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheath, and the sheath and the steel strand are filled with grease to form a "non-bonding" state (that is, there is no bonding between the steel strand and the concrete, and the stress is only transmitted through the anchors at both ends).
Specifications:
Nominal diameter: 15.24mm (about 0.6 inches), which is one of the common specifications of Prestressed Steel strands.
Nominal cross-sectional area: about 140mm², theoretical weight is about 1.102kg/m.
Tensile strength level: commonly 1860MPa (high strength grade, meeting most engineering requirements).
2. Core performance
Non-bonding characteristics: The sheath and grease isolate the steel strand from the concrete, allowing the steel strand to slide freely when subjected to force, avoiding uneven stress distribution caused by bonding.
Corrosion resistance: HDPE sheath has good corrosion resistance, and grease can isolate moisture and air, effectively protect the steel strand and extend its service life.
Relaxation performance: It belongs to Low Relaxation steel strand (similar to Class 2 in EN10138 standard). At 20℃ and initial stress of 70% of nominal maximum force, the stress relaxation rate of 1000 hours is ≤2.5%.
Elastic modulus: about 195kN/mm² (the specific value varies slightly due to the production process).
2. Application areas
1. Construction engineering
Large-span floor slabs and roofs: For large-span buildings such as shopping malls, gymnasiums, and airport terminals, unbonded steel strands can reduce the size of beams and columns, improve space utilization, and offset the tensile stress generated by the load through prestressing to avoid concrete cracking.
Cantilever structures of high-rise buildings: used for cantilever components such as balconies and awnings, prestressing is used to enhance the anti-overturning ability and reduce the deadweight of the structure.
Post-tensioned prestressed components: After concrete pouring, the strands are stretched and tensioned. They are suitable for components with complex cross-sections or on-site construction (such as transition layers and large-span beams).
2. Bridges and traffic engineering
Simply supported beams and continuous beams: Some small and medium-span bridges use unbonded prestressed steel strands to simplify the construction process (no need to pre-embed corrugated pipes) and reduce costs.
Bridge reinforcement: It is used for external prestressing reinforcement during the maintenance of old bridges. The load is shared by adding unbonded steel strands to improve the bearing capacity of the structure.
3. Special engineering
Liquid storage structures: Such as large pools and oil tanks, unbonded steel strands can apply circumferential prestressing to prevent liquid pressure from causing structural cracking and enhance impermeability.
Geotechnical anchoring: In slope support and tunnel lining, when used as anchor cables, the unbonded characteristics can reduce friction losses during tensioning and improve anchoring efficiency.
4. Prefabricated buildings
Used for the connection and tensioning of prefabricated components, such as prestressed tendons of composite panels and prefabricated beams, which is convenient for factory production and on-site assembly, and improves construction efficiency.
III. Construction advantages and precautions
1. Advantages
Convenient construction: no need to pre-embed corrugated pipes, bundle threading and tensioning operations are simpler, shortening the construction period.
Good economy: reduce the amount of formwork and embedded parts, reduce labor costs, especially suitable for complex structures.
Strong durability: HDPE sheath and grease form double protection, suitable for humid and corrosive environments (such as coastal areas, chemical plants).
2. Precautions
Anchor reliability: The stress of unbonded steel strands is completely transmitted through the anchors at both ends. High-quality anchors (such as clip-type anchors) need to be selected, and the anchoring performance test must be strictly carried out.
Tensioning control: The tensioning elongation value needs to be accurately calculated to avoid insufficient stress due to friction loss (although it is less than that of bonded steel strands, it still needs to be considered).
Fireproof design: HDPE sheath has a low melting point (about 130℃), and fire protection measures (such as wrapping fireproof materials) are required in high temperature environments.
